This special knitting program is open to all knitters. We will take a look at some quick and fun knitting projects that work well as gifts. There's still time to create a handmade gift! Beginning knitting will cover the basics of knitting with two needles. We will learn about the various types of and weights of yarn. We will discuss choosing needles and other supplies as we go. We will learn a variety of basic stitches and have short book talks on books available from the library. We will do a lot of practice! And finally, we will work on understanding pattern directions. Most of class time will be spent knitting . Projects include a sampler of practice stitches which we will fashion into a scarf or cowl, a coaster, a washcloth,and a hat.
There is no charge for the class but participants must purchase or bring their own supplies , which include:
size 8, 9, 10 straight needles
two skeins of worsted weight YARN- buy acrylic, wool, or a wool blend, for the sampler and hat, at least 100 yds. of each.
one or two skeins of cotton yarn for the coaster and washcloth
markers for hat,
pompom maker for hat.( Do not buy until you talk to the instructor about this. )
plastic yarn needle for sewing
small notebook for notes and counting
bag or basket to carry all supplies.
Tuesday night knitting is also open to experienced knitters who just want a friendly place to knit. Feel free to bring your current projects. You can get help or help others!
Coffee, tea, water and occasional snacks will be provided.
